Let us Review the Different Stages of Rotational Molding Process in Detail

Rotational moulding or rotomolding is a process of manufacturing seamless hollow plastic products. Products manufactured using this process are extremely strong, long-lasting and durable and can be moulded in desired size and shape. Rotational moulding was first developed in the 20th century and it was in the early 1960s when it gained wide acceptance. Plastic water storage tanks are manufactured using the rotomolding process which makes it the ideal choice. Rotomolding process is divided into four stages. Let's review the stages in detail.

Stage One: Loading the mould with polyethylene resin

At this stage, the mold is being opened and polyethylene resin is loaded into the mold. The pulverized material, a fine powder form is loaded into the prepared mold. After doing so, the mold is closed properly and rotated outside to ensure no powder is able to escape.

Stage Two: The mold enters the cook cycle while rotating on two axes at a low speed

As the mold is closed and secured, it moves into the heating chamber of the oven while rotating on two axes at a low speed. This is popularly known as the oven’s cook cycle and a standard temperature is maintained within the cook cycle in order to avoid overcooked and undercooked products.

Stage Three: Precooling and cooling of the mold while still rotating

The mold then moves into the cooling chamber and is cooled by air or a water spray or a combination of both while still rotating after a predetermined duration of the pre-cool cycle. This is an integral step to any rotationally molded products.

Stage Four: The final product is removed by unloading the molded product

After the cooling cycle is successfully completed, the mold is taken out of the cooling chamber where it is manually opened. The molded product is then removed from the same at an optimum temperature. The final product is ready to be displayed.

There are a number of materials available for rotational moulding and the most widely used is polyethylene. Plastic water storage tanks have become the top priority of the consumers at present all over the world. The manufacturing method of plastic water storage tanks is an integral part of this process. Penguin Tank is one such name who is manufacturing rotomolding water tanks for both domestic and commercial uses.
