5 Myths About Water Storage To Know Before Storing Water In A Plastic Water Storage Tank

Storing water is quite different from storing food and thus there are certain things that you should consider. Water should be protected against viruses, contamination, and bacteria. Here are 5 common myths about water storage that you should know before storing water in a plastic water storage tank –

    • Water can expire – Water does not have an expiry date but it can become contaminated. However, water can get a stale taste but this can be eliminated by purifying the water. Try to store water in an ideal condition. Keep it in a dry and cool place. Do not allow direct sunlight to reach your domestic water storage tank. If you can store water like this, then it can remain in good condition for a long time. Make sure to rotate the water after certain intervals in order to reduce the risk of contamination.

    • Water can be stored in plastic containers - It is absolutely safe to store water in plastic containers but it should be UV-resistant. Water storage barrels are mostly blue in color. This is because the blue color limits light exposure and eliminate the growth of algae and bacteria within the plastic water storage tank. Tanks made up of polythene are the safest containers to store water. Buy tanks from renowned water tank manufacturers in India as you should never compromise the quality when it is about water.

    • Water barrel can help you in emergencies – You can store water in a tank for later use and emergency purposes as well. However, if you want to travel from one location to another then you cannot carry a water barrel with you. Also, it is problematic if you have only one barrel of water. If there is any problem with the barrel then you might run out of water until and unless the problem is getting fixed. You should store water in various containers for emergencies.

    • We only need water purifiers  – Water purifiers can kill 99.9% of microorganisms like protozoa, viruses, and bacteria, found in water. Chlorine dioxide is great for treating your water kept in barrels as well as for water collected from streams and ponds. However, it is to be noted that a water purifier cannot remove turbidity from the water. So it is recommended to use both a water purifier and a water filter as well.

    • Water barrels can be stuck on top of each other – It is not recommended to stack water barrels on top of each other. However, if you want to save your floor space by stacking water barrels, you should use containers with grooves on the bottom for stacking. However, you should not keep your water barrel directly on cement or on your garage floor. Plastic can absorb flavors and chemicals in course of time and this can make the taste of water unbearable to drink. Try to place your barrel on a wooden board.
